Alice AR: Through the looking glass

An experimental AR project combining Unity, image tracking, and mirror painting. Inspired by Through the Looking-Glass, the work transforms a painted mirror into an interactive portal. When a viewer scans a painted illustration with their phone, a 3D version of the object or character appears in augmented reality while a corresponding passage from the book is read aloud.

The project explored the relationship between physical reflections and digital overlays, as well as the technical challenges of using mirrors as AR targets. Through the process, I discovered that image tracking becomes less reliable on reflective surfaces because the background is constantly changing. Despite these challenges, the experiment reinforced my interest in combining AR with dynamic and reflective objects, and I look forward to exploring these possibilities further.
